Hi - I am new to this forum although a member of VOC for a year with my old XC70. This weekend I picked up my 1990 340GL Variomatic. Condition is excellent, but find the steering a bit heavy after being used to power steering for many years. In the past I have had about four of these cars - they are great fun and looking forward to showing her in the summer.

Regarding the steering ,
Get two new tyres , 35 psi,a couple more if you like and it becomes reasonable especially with 155 x 13 tyres . The recommended 28 psi is ludicrous .

Hi - thanks for the tip - I'll inflate them later today - at the moment I have 175 SR13 - if I change them should I change all the tyres to 155 SR/13?

Looks tidy! Do you have any more pictures? I'd keep the 175 wide tyres and try adjusting the pressures, they shouldn't be *that* heavy to steer. They look pretty awkward on 155 wide rubber. My 360 GLS isn't too bad and that has a heavier engine over the front wheels with 185 wide GLT "Leo's".

Stick to 175 front tyres.

Heavy steering is most often caused by by the strut top mounts starting to break up
