Default Not the best weekend for the AC to stop working

The car's coming up to its first birthday and the Climate Control has decided to stop working. Whether the compressor has gone or it just needs regassing is anyone's guess until it goes in for its first service, but either way it's chuffing annoying. And a bit on the warm side.

Tell me about it. Popped into the dealers this morning and tried all the settings but no luck. Thought I was missing something too, so we set the passenger's vent to 22 degrees and driver's to LO - there was no difference in output. Grrr.

There was a problem with the outside air temperature sensor. If it failed, the AC only blew warm.
But I don't know if MY2017 is still prone to this failure.
Since the sensor (an NTC or PTC resistor) is very cheap, I keep a spare in the glove box...
If that turns out to be the problem, it should be an easy fix.

Tell you what though, no air con does wonders for your fuel consumption. Just driven from Yorkshire to London with the sunroof tilted open and the front windows down a bit. Set the ACC to 60mph, enjoyed the drive, and got 42.8mpg instead of my usual mid 30s...

There must be other factors at play there. Modern car aircon systems with variable output compressors will typically only increase fuel consumption by ~5%. At 50 mph and above the additional drag caused by open windows or a sunroof will increase fuel consumption by more than aircon would use.

On long motorway drives at 70 mph with aircon and PA2 on I get around the mid-forties mpg. At 60 mph I'd be nudging 50 mpg.

Mine is a four zone which I think has two compressors and rear one failed just before the first birthday. They tried all kinds of things (sensors, software) and in the end it was the most obvious though the most expensive - changed the compressor. Five weeks with the dealer.

Same story with battery - lots of testing could be saved and three weeks at the dealers - in the end change charging controller and the battery.

Thats what I get out of my D5 XC90 with 4 zone and 3rd row climate in use at 60 mph using PA2 on a long run.
Unfortunately most of my driving is short runs which averages aroung 26-27 mpg or towing a caravan (23 mpg)

I know how you feel with no aircon, I once had a V90 (original one) and the aircon packed up during to summer and it took months to get that fixed, that car was like a greenhouse in the hot weather.

The car is now booked in for Friday. I hope they don't take weeks to sort it. They've just had it for over a week sorting out the Air Suspension.
