Plush Tricot ( in a strange grey posibly with pink bits in ) and all black vinyl upper and lower dash doorcards etc

The black number refers to the interior vinyl colour.

Might be easier to just take a photo of the Product Plate as Mark has done, either way you're on the pre-96 plate as they changed some things on the 96 on product plate.

Also bear in mind that Post Offices were shut on 1/1/95 and online registration didn't exist. As such, some poor soul had to drive to the nearest Post Office at some point either before or after Xmas and before New Year and queue up to register and tax the vehicles that were officially being registered on 1/1/95.

That means any vehicles registered on 1/1/95 were in fact 1994 or earlier if they'd sat around in a dealers compound for 18 months or so - more commonplace than you think!
You may get a surprise when you check the 10th character of the VIN number, if it's S then it's MY95, R is MY94 and P is MY93.

You'll have to get your number punches out and change it then Mark!

Thanks though, i was trying to work out the 4th digit, seems it's a serial number so possibly refers to separate suppliers, a bit like the 2 digit suffix on the end of the 3 digit paint code refers to the supplier and the type of paint.

I couldn't work out the 4th digit either. Is there a page missing at the end of the book ?

Not that i can tell Mark, it just says "Serial Number" on one of the pages i saw the explanation of the code. Presumably for Volvos use only?

As you rightly surmised LS I got the number wrong[[serves me right for thinking my memory was up to it] The 10th letter of vin is S so MY95 car. From top to bottom the right hand side of plate reads:
9649534
26215 6
021U13A
-9 6977
419 -12
and the very bottom row is blank.
