With respect copy of section of manual for V60.
"'Start assistance HSA
The foot brake can also be released on an uphill gradient to start the engine automatically - the HSA function means that the car does not roll backwards.
HSA (Hill Start Assist) means that the pressure in the brake system remains temporarily avail- able while the driver moves his/her foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal for driving off with the engine having stopped automatically. The temporary braking effect releases after a couple of seconds or when the driver accelerates."

Still a little confused at o.p's original question
Sorry for the confusion regarding the original question I will try and expand. The manual describes HSA in section 03 of the manual "Eco Start/Stop DRIVe"

Start assistance HSA
The foot brake can also be released on an uphill gradient to start the engine automatically - the HSA function means that the car does not roll backwards.
HSA (Hill Start Assist) means that the pressure in the brake system remains temporarily available while the driver moves his/her foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal for driving off with the engine having stopped automatically. The temporary braking effect releases after a couple of seconds or when the driver accelerates.

It is also mentioned in other parts of the manual and my question is this - is HSA available at all times when stopped on a hill. I would imagine that it is very useful when trying to park in a tight space when on a hill. I will try it when If I ever manage to get it working. Hope this helps.

Having said that I can't get HSA to work in or out of DRIVe.

May be worth checking with your dealer to make sure your cat has it. The manual is not trim specific. by that I mean it may have information relating to systems not fitted to your car.

The system will only work when you are in drive and if you take your foot off the brake whilst on a hill and the car is running backwards then I would say either you car does not have it or their is a fault (though i would the cars computer would tell you of any fault

On a seperate note DRIVe is the eco model of these cars. There seemed confusion over whether you had a DRIVe model or we were talking Drive mode on automatic gearbox.

Are they talking about when the engine is restarting on a start/stop model?

Thanks for all your replies but I now have an update. The HSA does work when stopping on a hill if the brakes are applied firmly, It holds for about 2 to 3 seconds. However, no matter what I try I cannot get it to hold when in Start/stop mode which is when you need it most. It is definately the brakes that hold the car and not the auto gearbox.

Thanks again to all who replied.
