Default erratic transmission in my 850

My 850 gasoline non turbo started with a flashing arrow each 2 or 3 months, then after a while of rest it started again normally.
When cold in the morning seems to slip from one gear to another.
One bad day after a trip of 40 kilometers or so the arrow started to flash and never stopped.
I took the car to the specialist who assured he changed a solenoid, went home again and after 25 miles the arrow started to blink again. I called up the machanic and told me that he worked in electrical parts and cleaning of valve core and a change of fluid leaving the same filter because it is internal. He needs a scanning to see the transmission again (he has not scanner.....).
After weeks of suffering I noticed that setting the stick in 3, instead of D, it seems to work fine.
I need urgently the opinion of an expert, because I live far away where it seems to be a sin owning a Volvo. It is not easy living in Argentina.
Thanks a lot to everybody.
Mario Caldel.

i am not an expert, but the arrow you refer to comes on when your car is in 3 this is normal but not in D.... it sounds to me as if you need to look at the gear selector cable and see if it needs adjustment ...i am sure someone on here will give you good advice on how to do this
