What specific reason do you not park next to an electric vehicle? and what "Damage" can you substantiate that electric vehicles create to the environment? brake nano-particles are far less than you car would be, as electric vehicles use regen braking majority of the time. Brake pads dont need to be replaced very often at all. Infact some people havent changed them for over 100,000 miles due to one pedal operation. Tyre particles arent too disimilar to normal vehicles, only worse when you floor it all the time which is no different if you drive hard an ICE car. Electriciy bills are for the individual, and does not affect others, so many of your claims are invalid. In fact the oils, fuel, extra brake particles you create, filters and consumables from yearly servicing. All i have to replace yearly is the particle filter, nothign else needs changing on a yearly basis.

I think you clearly have some personal issues that you will likely need to some help to overcome :-).

I am not a fan of EV's but that's solely because the change in behavior I would need to make in my life to accomodate the use of one is more than I am willing to do. I would say that's the disadvantage of an EV - and I'm right. Others would say I should broaden my horizons, they might be right too.

But even as a non supporter of EV's, the arguments centred around particles from brakes and tyres are utter cobblers and not relevant. Even though they may be heavier, with regenerative braking I suspect the brake friction material consumption of EV's would be less than ICE cars and why is no-one levelling these arguments at large 4x4 and pickup drivers?

Given how often I had to replace them, I used to burn through more brake pad material in about 100 miles on a down hill mountain biking holiday than the same distance in a car...

How to say ‘I don’t have the first clue what I’m talking about’ without actually typing the words, eh!

Tyres - not 100% sure why but they simply use less - I can only assume that as the torque is linear with a single gear there is less ‘grabbing’ for grip. My Polestar has just gone through 30k and the front offside has about 4mm left (nearside was replaced at about 25k due to a puncture), the rears still have 4-5mm; my V60, on the exact same commute I did before buying the Polestar was down to 3mm in 17k, about half the tyre wear for the EV.

My car rarely uses the brakes, even when I ‘brake’ it uses the motor to slow - it even has a set-up that if you last had the wipers operating when you stop the car, it drags the pads on the discs for about 15m when you next set off to remove any surface rust as it may not use them for quite a while. Only if I brake very hard or brake when the battery is over 90% (and won’t regenerate) does it use the actual brakes.

If your concerns around parking is regarding a "potential" fire risk of EVs, the media spotlights electric car fires as they are the latest thing, however in our local newspaper, in the past month there has been over 10 normal combustion car fires, and when i was an on call fire fighter, i went to about 6 combustion engine car fires. Guess how many electric car fires i went too...Zero. if you want more proof, look at the media around the fire claims for BMW which had a 5 series police car catch fire and killed the officer. Do you park islated around 500 feet away from all other cars too? if so i suggest you start too.

Luton Airport Fire last night?

What's the betting that this started in an EV or the number of battery cars there contributed to the rapid spread of fire !?

You can even see white sparks flying at one point ...

There is a photo on social media showing a lone car in the car park on fire. It looks like a Range - Rover or something similar.

Hope you didn’t put too much on that bet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news…

“The cause of the huge blaze at London’s Luton Airport has been named as a diesel powered vehicle.

“We have no intelligence at this stage to suggest that this was anything other than an accidental fire that started in one of the vehicles that had not long arrived at the airport. It was not an EV,” Andrew Hopkinson, chief fire officer for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service told reporters on Wednesday morning, The Mirror reported.

He added: “This was a diesel powered vehicle.””

Electric cars didnt contribute towards the spread, the fact its a car park and all cars are parked in close proximity to each other is the main contributing factor.

Comment from the fire service on BBC news:

"Liam Smith, crew commander at Leighton Buzzard fire station, said that when he arrived, the fire was mainly on the third floor.

But it quickly spread down to the lower floors when the third floor started to collapse.

He said there were "lots of electric vehicles potentially involved quite early on", though the fire started in a diesel car.

"We decided to go defensive, which is basically where we decide to externally firefight rather than send firefighters in, for their safety as well.

"The cars were parked very close, next to each other.

"So unfortunately that was probably the reason for the rapid fire spread.""

Its a car park though....cars are always going to be parked next to each other so fire will easily spread. Do you think petro and diesel cars magically do not catch alight?

I drive a diesel electric !!! As someone posted here 2 months ago, would you argue a case for separate EV parking or accept that there just other elements to deal with in a mixed fire?

On the YouTube footage the cars were popping with white sparks - presumably the batteries. A bit like a phosphorous experiment.
