It equates to every 2 years which is the interval I change my manual gearbox oil at.

While I appreciate volvo charge £300+ for the job on an auto if you DIY oil is a lot cheaper than gearboxes.

.....and is probably about the same cost as a new clutch every 100k-150k.

Agreed it's the same cost as a clutch probably less than a clutch and flywheel.

As to milage a clutch lasts, how long is a piece of string? I know drivers get through 4 in 5 years while my P1 v70 which I towed with is currently 20 years old and 230,000 miles on original clutch..

I change engine oil every year irrespective of milage, I change gearbox oil every 2 years irrespective of milage. Even buying from volvo it's £14+ a litre and box takes 2.1 litres, I DIY so my time no labour, under £40 for piece of mind and longevity of gearbox. When a clutch is needed I will look at costs and weather before determining wether I DIY or put it in somewhere. As with the oil changes it's a service item, you know it will fail at some point so budget for it.

Paul.

Default Clutch

In 2005 I bought an 8 month old 10,000 mile s60 d5, I ran this car and towed with this car right up to 170k when I sold it to a mate, he then ran the car up to 280k on the same clutch.
In 2010 I liked the d5 so much I bought a second 2008 s60 d5 at 58k with full main dealer service history last one at 54K it had never towed until I bought it, at just over 60 k the clutch failed in Perpignan just over the 60k miles warranty OUCH!!! on the pocket had breakdown cover but had to pay repair bills
