Conversion table between Volvo specific and generic codes
I've played recently with new Vida 2010 and I managed to find the conversion table between volvo specific codes and the generic ones which you can read using cheap ebay code readers. Have a look below.
The first column is generic code which you can get with most of the cheap code readers and the second column is volvo specific code. The remaining columns present the fault type. Note. These are only ECM codes. Example: Generic code 0087 has the equivalent volvo code ECM-2503 and it means: Fuel pressure Pressure too low This might be useful for some of you. Conversion table standardized diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)/Volvo diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) Information Background OBD II is a diagnostic system tied to legislative requirements. A standardized fault tracing instrument can be connected to the data link connector (OBD II outlet) in order to read out diagnostic trouble codes and parameters. OBD II only contains the diagnostic trouble codes and parameters linked to emissions and thus cannot provide the same wealth of information as Volvo Diagnostics. Volvo has its own diagnostic trouble code designations that follow Volvo's Onboard Diagnostics protocol (called DII from model year 1999). Table explanations The conversion table below is used to match standardized diagnostic trouble codes (SAE/ISO) and Volvo diagnostic trouble codes (DII). SAE/ISO DTC: Standardized diagnostic trouble code as per SAE J2012/ISO 15031-6. The DTC can be read out from the vehicle using a standardized diagnostics system for emission-related faults certified as per OBD II. The readout is taken with a generic scantool, a fault tracing instrument standardized as per SAE J1978/ISO 15031-4. Volvo DII DTC: Volvo-specific diagnostic trouble code as per Volvo Onboard Diagnostics protocol. Can be read out from cars from model year 1999 using VIDA. DTC designation: Volvo DTC designation. Used in VIDA. Fault type: Volvo's method of specifying the fault. Used in VIDA. Note! An SAE/ISO diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can correspond to several DII diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). All of these must therefore by rectified in order for the corresponding SAE/ISO diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to disappear. Several SAE/ISO diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may also refer to the same DII diagnostic trouble code (DTC). There are DII diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for non emissions-related faults that do not correspond to any SAE/ISO diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
