Default D5 Engine Tuning

I know its probably already here somewhere, but Im new to this forum and struggling a bit with searching for previous posts.

I own an S60 D5 (185) and was wondering what tuning upgrades are available for it and what power benefits I will get out of one.

To be honest, I'm more interested in proper remaps than plug in tuning 'boxes' as the remaps tend to be more forgiving to the engine and are specific to the engine itself.

What do you lot recommend, how much is it and where can I get it?

Thanks in advance!!

Andrew

www.polestar.se

Have a look and see if they do your model, also contact your local dealer about the Polestar Remaps, you can get them done there.

I have seen many great results coming from their remaps and no complaints

Also it will Increase your mpg not lower it. More power with better economy. Win.

Thanks for the quick reply - cant seem to see the cost to get that done anywhere - is it something that the dealers do for you??

Looks like a worthy contender though - Cheers!

Try MORE-BHP, their based in Crewe, so not far from you and only charge £199.00. Im guessing it wont be as good as RICA or MTE, but you should see over 200bhp in yours

Im getting my 163 done soon hopefully

This may be of interest to you -

The RICA E-Power gives you similar performance to the Polestar upgrade, while the other RICA upgrades give you more performance, with several options to choose from.

Go Polestar.
Volvo approved and supported, and Volvo are involved in the development so Polestar have all the proper figures without best guessing.

has anybody any idea how much volvo charge for the polestar, has anybody had it done? just looked at the polestar website and the gains look fantastic, 163 to 205 bhp, i do like that! also developed by volvo (or with some co-op at least!) which makes it preferable to others!

Volvo Car UK launches Polestar Performance for Volvo owners wanting to enhance their vehicle's performance
16 July 2009

•Volvo Car UK launches Polestar Performance for Volvo owners wanting to enhance their vehicle's performance
•All upgrades carry a full Volvo warranty
•Upgrade available on D5 185 PS engines in V70, XC70 and S80 from 1 August 2009, with XC90 due later this year
In conjunction with participation at the Brands Hatch round of the WTCC this weekend, Volvo Car UK and Polestar Racing AB have announced a new range of performance upgrades for Volvo road cars

A collaboration between Volvo's Racing Team, Polestar, and Volvo Car Corporation's powertrain department has produced ‘Polestar Performance’ - bespoke software that enhances vehicle performance. The software upgrade will be available from Volvo's UK dealer network and complies with EU emission regulations.

The performance upgrades will be made available on 1 August for the popular D5 185 PS engine fitted to the Volvo V70, XC70 and S80, while the XC90 will be available later this year. The engine control system upgrades offer a power increase of 20 horsepower to 205 PS, without affecting the car's fuel consumption in normal driving. After optimisation, the acceleration of the car improves on average by 0.5 seconds in both manual and Geartronic transmissions. Naturally, the car will also comply with the strict emissions regulations stipulated by EU legislation. Prices for the upgrade are £650 including VAT.

More importantly, all warranties from Volvo will apply. None of Polestar's power optimisation kits increase the car's top speed. As a result, standard brakes and tyres can be used.

The upgrades are being launched to coincide with the Volvo/Polestar Racing team's appearance in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The team is currently lying in second place in the Swedish Touring Car Series with two ethanol-powered Volvo C30 DRIVe race cars. This weekend, drivers Robert Dahlgren and Tommy Rustad will travel to Brands Hatch to test their skills against the world's best touring car drivers, during a one-off appearance at the latest round of the WTCC.

Robert Dahlgren said: "It will be very interesting and fun to see where we are compared to Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini that are now in the lead of the WTCC. I think we will have a good chance to deliver results."

"During the work to evolving our racing engines, we have developed the engine control system to achieve maximum power. We realised early on that we could offer this to all Volvo owners, and Volvo quickly showed an interest", says Christian Dahl, managing director of Polestar Racing AB.
