Tradeoff?
Gents,
On the 185bhp D5, the tuning takes it over 200bhp which is nice, but seeing as the emissions rating, and the fuel consumption are unchanged I have to wonder why Volvo didn't map them this way OEM? Could it be because they wanted the transmissions to last longer? Even the BMW auto boxes are supposed to get trouble when going above 400Nm of torque (the 530d has been known to suffer) , maybe it is the same with these asian AWs, that they have shortened service lives when subjected to more than 400Nm? |

The old mans increased in MPG by about 5-6mpg and its increasing as time goes on too. Hes heavy footed and doesnt exactly plod along.
I agree, should of mapped it OEM. But you can order your car with Polestar fitted now. Wether that is fitted at the dealer when it arrives, or from factory I do not know

Because they have to cater for everything, like crap fuel, crap drivers, poor serviceing and different climates, so they set the cars up WELL within their limitations. If you use the decent fuel, service the car regularly, and dont abuse it, a mapped car should last as long as a standard car thats abused |

Remapping the D5 will quickly reveal (& kill) any worn cluch or DMF components. Rica sportune 210 (Euro 3) creates a mighty 480+nm of torque, a new , good clutch can only just hold it & may well slip on a hill

Have a look at http://forums.t5d5.org/forum/52-d5-engine-tuning/?
Plenty of info there, not all comments good either. Ignore the stuff relating to 163 cars. In short, from what I've read, the 185 has a much uprated DMF and clutch (and other bits) over the older 163, and it can easily handle the 250hp the RICA sport tune gives. RICA is MUCH cheaper than Polestar, and gives more power. If your car is '07 or older it's out of warranty anyway, so why pay for the "insurance" of Polestar? (You say it's a 185, but not the age). If I was allowed (it's her car) I'd be going for the RICA 240 tune. Not the top power option, but probably a better option for a 4wd cars gearbox....

I have ran a sport map Euro III for 60K miles, on the original clutch etc. now @ 155K. and no issues. So some of it is hype.
