But for the sake of argument if a the normal back box is slightly restrictive if you were to swap to a "sport" back box or remove it and just fit a streight pipe out the back, and yes I know why would you, but just as a point you could create a problem by the differantial being low due to the restriction from the DPF(blocked or not) and the rest of the free flowing system being nearer atmospheric pressure. But thats for another day..... Not having a go Clan, just talking around the point. Thanks for your input, Matt Last edited by Appletree; Apr 9th, 2012 at 22:31. Reason: I can't spell |

So to update the thread we've had some developments today.
First rang, volvo, ford and Mazda to get a price for the differetial sensor as they all use the same. Ford - £90.20 + VAT Volvo - £84.60 Inc Vat Mazda - Fell out with parts guy but they couldn't get till next week Picked up the sensor from Volvo Doncaster and ordered the Gaskets for either end of the DPF, £6 odd each inc VAT. Next went back to dads and fitted the sensor, nice and easy, removed the whole exhuast from DPF back so i could TIG up the pin hole in the weld on the centre section. Removed the exhuast as we didn't fancy blowing something up from a bad earth. The view inside the DPF when i got it off, had to grind the DPF to centre section nuts off, knocked the splined bolts out ready for new ones as the threads were damaged. Front Rear Can't see anything wrong with it but we rigged up a powerful fan, like the ones used to blow up bouncy castles, and connected to the filter with a pipe and left it back blowing the DPF for an hour or so but nothing came out no even on start up. Put the exhuast back on and started the car to move it off the ramps and got a engine warning light but it was just to say the DPF efficentcey was too low as we havent got the kit yet to calibrate the sensor although it should be here tomorrow. Also ordered this "repair bracket" to replace the snapped off hanger welded to the ceentre section at the back, genuine Volvo £37inc vat at the dealers or £29 off ebay. a the cars off the road till we get the diagnostic kit we didnt mind waiting for it to come. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1904113464...84.m1439.l2649 Last edited by Appletree; Apr 10th, 2012 at 20:26. It looks pretty clean in there considering how much soot goes in but doesnt come out the rear! It is unlikely blowing through it will move any soot because the core consists of millions of right angle bends to trap the soot in , it isnt like a catalylic converter which is straight through . ( which you have further upstream towards the engine ) .
Looking forward to tomorrow ;-)

to finish this thread off for the time being anyway.
With help of Mike ( outnumbered ) again we have managed to get the car up and running again. After we fitted the new DPF pressure sensor we had a engine light on the dash and the "engine system service required" again, i cleared the ecu/engine symbol with my torque app on my phone but the messgae wouldn't go. We tried 30m+ of driving as another thread suggested it would clear, but it didn't seam to auto clear, unfutunately although we have the VIDA software and box of tricks now our laptops are the wrong OS for it tor run right. Dad spoke to Mike and agreed to come and read the codes again on his reader. As always happens, on the way to have the codes read they auto cleared and the message went away, this was at nearer 50m sinse we fitted the new sensor. Anyway it wasn't a wasted juorney as the codes were still there in the background doorment, and Mike was able to test the DPF sensor which was reading around 4HPa at idle, so all is good. The car has no gone back to running much better and is returning better MPG again |
