Default Drive shaft

Hi, I don't post much on here these days, but I come on nearly every day. I am changing the passenger side driveshaft and I'm struggling to separate the bottom ball joint. I'm going to buy a joint separator. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to get the best for the job on my P3 V70 please. I used to have one, going back about 40 years, it was the type with a large bolt at one end and a fork and lever at the other, if you get my drift. In 40 years, have they improved any? Thanks for taking the time to read, and I look forward to hearing any response.

Usually do mine with a big hammer and a little tension on the joint!

Do you really need to disconnect the lower ball joint, I did mine on my V40 by just disconnecting the hub from the strut and letting the hub hang forward. Watch the tension on any abs sensor cables or other pipes etc.

Thanks for your reply. I tried that and it wouldn't budge.

The P3 v70 is a different set up. To disconnect the hub from the strut, you have to remove the drive shaft first. Thanks.

Just to put this to bed. I bought a ball joint splitter which appeared to be too thick and I didn't want to damage the ball joint boot, so I took it to my local garage and they fitted the drive shaft for me £75.00. I'm happy with that.
