RTI-Sat Nav Video/DVD adaptor
Is there any way to get the LCD screen to display video or DVD movies rather than a poor quality TV picture ?
Might keep the kids quiet once we get to our campsite (especially if all the local TV is in a foreign language) Cheers, Chris

I don't think so. But, you'd need to keep the engine running else your battery would be falt within 20 minutes. Suggest you buy a portable dvd player - they're quite cheap now.

Yes I reckon you're right. The main dealer didn't think the RTI unit would accept any other sort of input.

RE: RTI-Sat Nav Video/DVD adaptor
An old thread I know, I was searching to see if anyone has managed to get a TV to the screen (as my S80 doesn't have TV).
As well as that, analogue TV will be turned off soon. Anyway, I came across this site : http://www.gnetcanada.com/ They sell adapters that sit between NAV UNIT ---> GNET ADAPTER ---> SCREEN and accept video inputs, including auto/reverse (so you could fit a camera to the back). Basically then you can fit a cheap DVD/Digital TV Box in the boot. (It also wont turn off when driving - purely for the benefit of passengers) It's a little out of my price range, but for those that buy new cars, it's not going to be expensive. Love to hear if anybody has managed to do it. Tom |

This sounds like the thing - again too expensive for me also but I suspect this sort of thing will become cheaper the neaer we get to an analogue switch off.
Of course, you'd have to find a Digital TV Box that is 12V (or use an inverter ?). Again, would also love to know if anyone's done it. Cheers, Chris

There's people making 12V Digiboxes - £99.
I guess I could have setup a digibox, and reverse camera on the screen. But instead, I just spent a small fortune on getting some genuine 18" Nebula alloys and Pirelli's to ride on, boy does it look better. Tom |

have been playing with this myself
most effective way i have found is to use a 12v modulator (available from ebay) the sort of tv modulator that will allow you to plug in a scart device to a non scart tv then run a long copper wire (ie coax inner core or the earth wire out of some household 1.5 mm) about mtsr long round the rear window this acts as a transmission Ariel and can be picked up by the tv tuner if fitted only way i have found of doing it there is a company out there that make a bit of kit to plug in but its about £300 trying to think of their name now (nav tv just remembered think they based in Cardiff) have tried all sorts of stuff and i find the long wire to be most effective without costing a fortune (about £20) all i have to do now is find a way to tidy up the installation gonna try the long wire in different locations see if it will transmit enuff to put on the rear shelf under the cover will hide the modulator and wire lovely Last edited by t5tart; Jan 15th, 2008 at 12:53. Reason: remembered the details of nav tv |

You could also use an iPOD to show videos and movies through the TV screen:
