£300 240 on ebay with snapped cambelt
Saw this and thought someone should save it before it ends up being bangered, know nothing about 240s but im fairly certain its a non-interference and this could be a good parts car or chuck a belt on and go. Nothing to do with me at all but figured id post it incase anyone is interested.

I'm sure this has done the rounds on the 240 facebook page. I thought it had been saved, but obviously not. If the bodywork is decent then the worse case scenario is you fit another engine. Or like you say, if the damage to the engine is minimal, a new belt could sort it

Apparently (I'm not an expert!) it's not a non-interference engine, it's an engine with heron design pistons and a 631 head. So although the belt snapping has lead to bent valves, the question is whether it's also lead to broken Pistons...
But put another engine in it and away you go, as you say... Turbo? |

Seems too good to scrap. GL is good isn't it? And. Any potentially viable 240 is good.
It has a history that could indicate neglect for a while so it will need a fair few things doing. https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ D593RNK. The repairs are the real purchase price. Is that an electronics free engine? That would reduce the potential for expense. No ECU issues. It has a difficult corrosion history affecting the rear suspension mounts and rear seat belt anchorages. The welding done to overcome MOT failures might have been less than comprehensive. Fititng the cambelt is not that difficult. Even I managed the job eventually on my SE. Is it the type of engine that needs preferably the Volvo tool to hold the crankshaft pulley while the bolt is undone? The tool is cheap anyway. There is or has been an oil leak. Is it the front oil seals to change with the cambelt or??? Perhaps a buyer with the chance to use a car carrying trailer, a SORN suitable place for it, welding abilities and equipment and a few metric sockets might buy it? Or with some cash to pay for the work. But beware. People have spent money and sold eventually at a loss. |
