Fitting a Mobile phone car kit
I have recently bought a bluethooth car kit to use in my S60 and before I pay an extortionate amount of money to have it fitted I would like to know if someone who is not entirely ignorant of electronics could fit it myslef?
I'm really looking for the best spot to connect to power and audio mute on the radio rather that undoing too many screws in the search! Any suggestions? Many thanks |

RE: Fitting a Mobile phone car kit
You pull the radio and connect to switched and permanent power as well as ground and mute there. Ask the dealer for the wiring diagram for the radio.

Thanks George that makes a lot of sense, especially the bit about asking the dealer! I assumed they would just give me a lecture about affecting the warranty or something.
Does anyone know how to remove these new CD/Radios? I have the HU-803 and its different now in that it doesn't have those release slots that earlier models apparently have. |

We won't give you a leture but maybe some advise its not just a case of pulling the radio out you will have to remove the climate control unit first which isn't hard if you know how to do it. But if you disconnect it then turn or have the ignition on it will put the SRS light on and it will stay on even when reconnected.

RE: Fitting a Mobile phone car kit
I have just bought a D5 S and am having the same problem i.e wanting to fit a hands free kit. I investigated the mountings etc. and found 2 screws to release the bottom of the ECC unit. Having removed the screws the bottom pivotted out quite easily but the top remained firmly attached. Not wanting to break anything I have put it all back for now. How is the ECC removed prefereabbly without activating the SRS light?
My phone kit just plugs into the back of the radio intercepting the speaker link so is dead easy once I get to the back of the radio. |

To remove the ECC unit remove the 2 screws at the bottom and pull foward slightly then get hold of 1 side of the ECC unit and pull, it will be tight but it should come out and then just remove the 2 screws holding the radio and cup holders in place and the radio should just drop out.

RE: Fitting a Mobile phone car kit
I got a diagram off the internet (US model) and have a fully woring Nokia CARK 91 installed in the central tunnel cup holder box, a very neat solution. I have not got the radio mute to work as I have to buy another relay however I have since found that SIO produce a wiring kit with Volvo and Nokia plugs on to provide automatic muting unfortunately another £42 so its penny saving time again.
