Default Thule Euroclassic 929 with Backup 900

Hi all,

Further to my recent travels down to the South of France with 6 in the car, luggage and ski gear, 420 litre roof box, I felt I could still use more room!

I have been searching for options to increase the load capacity with various boxes that can be fitted to the towbar. Theres solutions from:
http://www.bak-rak.com/
http://www.westfalia-loadcarrier.co....westfalia-box/
There are also a couple of suppliers from Germany and Spain but the price ends up being much more than a Thule base rack plus box or bag system.

However, through my search I have come across an adaptor which can be used for the Thule Backup 900 on a Thule Euroclassic 929 bike rack - see attached photos. I dont believe its a Thule adaptor as I have contacted them with no luck. Since I already have the Thule 929 bike rack, I'm keen to get hold of the adaptor - I'll save a bit of money and also means I dont have another piece of equipment to store i.e. the base rack.

Anyone else have any experience with this? Thanks in advance

Cheers
Steve

The BackUp Box

Usually installs onto the EasyBase.

But this Polish(I think) company(http://www.sklep.milecki.com.pl) sells the "adapter" to make the BackUp Box fit your Euroclassic 929 bike rack. Scroll almost to the bottom for the info ...

Here's a direct link to the Box, Rack and Adapter as a kit.

I'm unable to find the adapter on its own. Give them a call and hope they speak English ...

Actually I do speak Polish guys so if you wish I could give them a call and ask if they sell adapter on its own. Although I think that I found it on their website:

http://www.sklep.milecki.com.pl/adap...raz-p-550.html

It states the following:

Thule Adapter 9042 EuroClassic is bypassing the spare wheel. It allows installation boot EuroClassic 908 and 909 G5 and G6 928 and 929 to hook the car with a spare wheel on the back of duly reducing the boot capacity with one bike.

To compensate the reduction of luggage capacity, use following compensates snap-on Thule EuroClassic 9081:

http://www.sklep.milecki.com.pl/przy...az-p-2557.html

I hope above helps to solve the mystery. It doesn't say anything above delivery outside Poland however I can easily call them and ask if needed. For Poland if order is over 1000 zl or around £200 is for free so I am pretty sure delivery is negotiable.

Thanks. I emailed the polish company and their response was that the adaptor can only be sold as a package with bike rack and backup box. Also they will not ship to outside of poland.

Also had response back from thule and they are not aware of this adaptor so it sounds like an unofficial attachment.

Thanks for your help. Am now looking at local aluminium pipe fabricators/benders to see if I can get a similar adaptor made up.

Doesn't look too difficult, pretty sure someone will be able to sort make an adapter for you, good luck.

Ok, I found installation instructions from Thule website where describes what is necessary for installation of BackUp 900 box. I do hope you find the adapter:

http://www.thule.com/en/pl/products/...p-900-_-900000

Click on User manual!

So either Polish website or Thule one are mistaken/misinformed! Because 1st one states that BackUp 900 could be used with EuroClassic 929 and second one states:

"The rear-mounted box has been tested and approved to fit the following Thule rear-mounted cycle racks: EasyBase, EuroClassic 910, 911, 913 and 914, EuroClassic Pro 902 and 903 and BackPac 973, if a load with 4 bicycles is permitted for the vehicle in question according to the fitting list. For the BackPac 973, an adapter set with item no. 900-1 shall be used."

Or perhaps Polish salesmen tested something that Thule didn't! This wouldn't surprise me at all. I will call them tomorrow and explain my concerns regarding mismatched information between them and Thule. I would also ask how they manage to fix the box if Thule doesn't supply such adapter.

If you ask me personally, I believe that BackUp 900 should fix your bike rack without any issues after I went through the manual and staring at the photos.

I called Polish company and I was told that they have got adapter produced to fit BackUp 900.
As stephenlumb67 mentioned it shouldn't be a rocket science to have one made by some local company. It looks like U shaped pipe. Pity that they are not based close to Warsaw otherwise I would have gone to check it out this weekend.

Thanks again T1sh0! It is a pity, but if I do manage to get one made up I'll post up the details.

Cheers

Thule Euroclassic 902 & 903 with 900 Box:

It seems you're hard work of this. I can assure you the Thule Euroclassic 902 & 903 with 900 Box combination works. And using the four bike kit with the 903 you can have a 900 and one bike. And the Easybase is cr*p it won't tilt. See my other post
