At that age I'd take a first guess that you have low gearbox/transmission fluid levels ... likely to be a leak .... unless you have very high miles or have led a hard life .... no easy guess, you need to get VIDA connected or get some professional help to diagnose if your not ok with doing it yourself.

Had any work done on it recently?

Its got 155,000 on the clock I've only had the car for about 2 month so don't know the history i have vida was just wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing while I'm waiting to be recovered I've never done any work on the car recently though but have noticed after I've let the car cool for a bit it had gone back to normal but when i hit hills or anything i lose drive so starting to think your right with fluid side of things fingers crossed thats what it is 🤞🤞🤞🤞

I had the same issues/symptoms when I had a fluid leak, as I started up a hill, a god almighty bang and no drive ... coupled with a cherry red puddle of fluid ... turned out the "green" seal on the oil cooler pipe had failed.

Car got recovered, seal/o-ring changed and refilled with fluid ... issue solved.

Hence my suggestion of what the issue/cause may be.

It really needs checked over and VIDA connected to get the faults.

Not easy on a dark road at night ... good luck with it is all I can suggest at the moment unless you manage to drive it back home for examination.

Definitely worth checking the fluid level, auto boxes can do some weird things when they’re short of blood.
Don’t top it up with normal ATF, the correct fluid is known as 3309, it’s not cheap but cheaper than a gearbox
