Default Thermostat leak strip down pic and question

Hi,

Well after the water pump being replaced last month i thought i would attack another little coolant drip thats been annoying me since ive owned the car.

I worked out it was coming from the top of the thermostat housing. I stripped it down today and found a tin gasket which had a very ridged flackey black plastic coating that broke away and which i suspect was once rubber gone bad.

The gasket was in bad shape. So much so that iam considering replacing the thermo housing to block gasket as well. Its only 2 torx bolts away although i cannot see the bottom bolt so it would have to be removed by feel.

Going to call FRF Volvo on monday and order one or two gaskets.

So iam assuming the gasket should have been rubber coated and its not some fancy gasket seal that i need to buy as well ?

Default thermostat housing gasket

Is the thermostat gasket ,shown in post 1 , available to order- from anywhere !

My research has come up with this. -- google VO31293699TH - by GParts in Russia. Won't be ordering from there. Perhaps these gaskets are available from parts suppliers in the 3 Baltic countries ,now members of the EU -- Estonia,
Latvia & Lithuania.
In the meantime I'll order a tube of Permatex 22071, gasket maker - suitable for thermostat housings. My V70 has the D5244T engine.

Hi jnmonaghan

I believe the part number for that gasket is 9463274

I found it here
https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...1/9463274.html

Price is $8.96. I would imagine that you can get it from any Volvo dealer.

They say it fits these cars

The gasket in the op is for a petrol engine, so will be different for your diesel. Also this forum deals with the V70 up to 1999, so you would be better off posting in the forum that covers your car.
