Exclamation Cooling Leak - Oil cooler?

Morning all. My V70 TDI has sprung a massive coolant leak, as soon as the thermostat kicks in it dumps its coolant within a few minutes.

We think we have found the source, it seems to be coming from a pipe under the oil filter. Both hoses appear wet but one we think is the man culprit!

Anyway I can't find these hoses anywhere online, they have VW part numbers so would be handy if I can swing by TPS today before we get it on a ramp tonight!

Common issue? There's no oil in the coolant it's just the water itself. And if anyone knows/can find the part Number will be much appreciated!

Many thanks people

9180625 (the main culprit)

9180628

The second picture springs to mind....as that was the one that sprung a leak on mine. Got mine from the main dealer....but had to be ordered in from Sweden. Perhaps give FRF in Swansea a ring and email the pictures to them ?

Unfortunately it was the pipe with heat shroud on it!

The hole in the pipe was pretty easy to repair in the end, but actually getting the bugger off/on was about 4-5 hours work. Total nightmare! But the beloved Volvo is now back in daily use!

Well, had an empty coolant tank this morning. Topped it up, drove to work (Never got hot) and the great leak has happened again!

Anyone know where I can get the above pipe? Seems only American sites show up and its always "discontinued". I'll try ringing Volvo today, I dont hold out much hope. Was such a pain to do last time, the pipe you mention above was a doddle compared!

Hi there thanks for this! Yeah I found that diagram but the dealer says its discontinued. I'm wondering if I could chop out a section and splice in new pipe?

Next time I'm definitely taking the whole oil filter/oil cooler assembly off though!

Well if it's discontinued then I see that you only have a couple of choices...
1 - Visit a scrappy and hope you find a good one....
2 - Make one and keep your fingers crossed....my bodge to get me going was on the car for 6 weeks before I got round to replacing it. I used a couple of 15mm copper elbows, 16mm hose and jubilee clips.

Now, the pipe you need to replace is a lot different to the one I did, but the principle is the same. If it was mine I'd be looking at using some flexible copper pipe and 16mm cooling hose. If you google flexible copper pipe you'll know where I'm coming from......use Yorkshire fittings as they have a nice "hump" where the solder is and then there will be less chance of the hose coming away.......

Well, turns out I didnt have to do this. I ended up cutting the pipe short due to the split being fairly close to the end... it still reached! And.... IT DOESNT LEAK! Wooooo!
