A genuine or Continental belt will still be top condition after 30K miles/5 years. A cheap brand will fail in less than 30K miles, same for a cheap water pump.

Word of advice for everyone who bought a Volvo that had the cam belt or water pump replaced. It would be a good idea to have a look at them if one is not aware of the brands used. https://youtu.be/10mua7dRZok

thanks for the reply, the car has only done 11000 miles since the last belt change and she only does about 500 miles a year to keep her ticking over but i may have it done sooner rather than later. thanks for your help.

cambelt only needs doing every 10 years , thats the time period if you are doing low mileage, were you aware the thermostat behind the cam wheels needs changing too as part of the cambelt service whilst you have the belt off ? Its a big job otherwise if it fails a week after doing the belt .( It's Part of the stipulated volvo servce )

my vote is always just do it anyway, if you're planning on it in a year or so why not just get it out the way now for peace of mind. first job I did on mine, being low mileage but old. even though it was garaged etc time is a killer for rubber bits

it'll do another 10 years and 80,000 miles by which time you might be driving something else anyway

Thumbs up tilney boy cam-belt query

thanks. i think that would be the right thing to do as it is such a nice car. as for keeping the car ten years, that would pushing it a bit although it is not our main drive we/i tend to change rather quickly.21volvos and50 cars in total is the score so far.
