Question i have a question about cvt's

i have recently experienced some problems with high revs....someone has reccomended i dissconnect the vacum hoses...or possibly just one of em...obviously i am dubious about doing this as i dont know how cvt's work and what efect this would have...so can anyone shed some light on what this will do ...if anything...and wether it is a good/bad or f***ing stupid idea?

Disconnecting a vacuum hose isnt going to make it work . You really need someone with experience of this system . The system is simple enough but the vacuum control needs understanding . Any one of 6 different things could cause it not to change up . but if you get to 50 mph the mechanical bob weights should change the ratio up ..

My suspicion is that the one who is telling you it's a problem with the vacuum valve(s) is closest to the truth. As Clan says, you need to find someone with experience of this system.

Whereabouts in the country are you? Perhaps someone here could take a look if they're local.

cheers

James

Not so bad...I spend some time in Worksop (and Kiveton Park), so it's not much of a trek to come and take a peek there. My Mum hails from just north of the city, so I know it...a little!

Would you like a rev counter, by the way? I have one here, and it's a fairly quick/easy addition on a later car. What year is yours?

cheers

James

cheers

Hi all I had this fault a few years ago, although they do tend to rev high, anyway it turned out it was the unit on the inner wing (i think it was on the drivers side wing neer the expansion bottle) What a think had happened was i changed the drive belts and possibly blew a diaphram in the unit as i seperated the two cones, if i change them a again i will disconnect all the vac pipes. Not saying it will be the same on your car but the symptoms are the same.
