Default 960 steering column joint

Hi, newbie here so sorry if this has been covered already, I did a search but came up with nothing relevant.
Hopefully I've posted this in the correct section ?
My Dad has owned his 960 from new, and at 87 he'd like to keep it running rather than buy another car. But,
MOT advisory for a worn steering column joint.
So the car has an MOT for now, but his garage tell him there's no way it's getting another without a new joint in the column, but they can't find one.
Are they available anywhere ? I've looked online but can't find one. Is there anywhere that could refurbish the old one ?
I realise that he might not be driving when the next MOT rolls around, but the car needs other work, rear shocks, suspension bushes, and the lacquer is starting to peel.
He's always kept it pristine and wants to have the work done, but he'd be laying out around £2k and doesn't want to do that if he can't get the column joint replaced.
Any helpful suggestions gratefully received. TIA

You can get them used, but a forum member had great results by removing his and boiling it in ATF.

I had the same issue. Presume either upper or lower steering column U joint. I fitted a used one. I also phoned around and found a company who could rebuild it. Can't find who though now! You need to remove and send it to them. Around 3 day turn around. I kept the old knackered one to give another option when this one fails.

James.

Thanks,
the name of that company would be really useful if you can dig it out ?
After all, you're gonna need them some day

If you don't end-up getting yours reconditioned, I've got plenty of spare ones.

Default How many different types?

It would be good to know how many different types and what years they applied to? Maybe they are all the same from early 740/60 up through all 9 series but I guess not?

Cheers!

I managed to find a lower steering universal joint from a breakers on ebay earlier In the year.

My car is a 940 but i purchased one from a 960 which was fitted for me when the steering rack was replaced at the same time.(my steering wheel sits at straight when driving straight which is wonderful).

Anyway, I digress.Good used ones are available so just keep looking!!

Shaun
