Default Saving Driver Settings

I have a brand new XC90 T8 Hybrid and we have spent hours setting the car up the way we want it.

Yesterday we found a small bug with the Head-Up-Display (it keeps forgetting where we had set it) and I mentioned this to the garage. They told me that Volvo have advised them that re-setting the software might fix it. I asked if the car would keep all our settings and was told that they would all be lost.

Furthermore, I understand that there will be a software update in Q1 2018 and I asked if our settings would be retained after the upgrade and was told that no, they would all be lost again!

Can this really be true? Does Volvo expect their customers to re-enter all their settings again every time they need to fix some software bug? Why can't we simply back up our settings to a memory stick or something?

I think there's an export option somewhere, probably for your profile. Don't know if this keeps all settings. When I had last May's total software update my settings weren't lost.
