Talking Under Pressure

It is worth noting that a fair few of the manufacturers mentioned in this thread recommend an increase of 0.2bar (2.9psi) during a cold weather spell to accomodate the natural pressure decrease due to temperature drop.

for example Michelins advice is http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/lear...d-weather-tips

I run my Pirelli shod XC70 at 38psi (economy pressure)and this morn on stone cold tyres measured them at 35.5psi (half a psi above comfort pressure)

Been out in snow today seems surefooted at the lower pressure but if you are already at comfort pressure you will find your tyres are now under pressure.

Can someone count how many times I said pressure ? No pressure.

Very interesting but surprised they didn't include the Pirelli Verde all season.

It is either the unconconcious bias of the Auto Express team

or the quickest manufacturer off the mark to throw tyres into the arena for testing.

Tyre choice is a very subjective personal thing.

I have Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Seasons on my XC70. They suit my needs. Others dont like them. I drive vehicles at work which have had GoodYear Efficient grips and Dunlop SP01 All season tyres. I dont prefer one tyre over the other. They are adequate.
I have run vehicles with Continental tyres and suffered with excessive punctures and disliked the characteristics when towing our caravan, so I am unlikely to buy Conti's again. It's like that one bad meal you had at a restaurant you have been to for years then you never return. Its a human thing...anyways I'll shut up now

Yes I wonder how they stack up - still the tyre of choice on lots of land rovers and some volvo's - it's what I have on mine

I had the Verde all seasons on my previous XC60 and was really impressed so am now running a set as my winter tyres. Will probably keep them on well after winter before putting my summer wheels back on.

Didn't go out in the big snow today though as our road was littered with 2 wheel drive cars on summer cars that managed to get all of 10 feet before being abandoned. I don't quite understand why they bother unless it is absolutely necessary.

Taking a neighbour for hospital appointment tomorrow 30 miles away so will be tested then.

Here is a link to several other winter tyre reviews. The Pirelli may be there amongst the tests (I have not checked).

Hi Tom,

As good as the Pirelli Scorpion summer tyres that were on before them.

I went out six times yesterday taking the kids to parties and dance classes, etc. and gave stranded people lifts home and even did a check for someone who had to get to north Devon by driving down to the M5 to see how clear it was.

Have to say - unbelievably impressed with the car and the tyres - will literally go anywhere.

Driven into work this morning - was a breeze.

Had my XC60 FWD shod with Scorpion Verde at the weekend. It was a bit of a blinder as I only got them as it was the only tyre in that size that Kwik Fit had a full set in stock. I had to throw a tantrum with the lease company to get them authorised but.... it's no exaggeration to say the car is transformed. Grip much, much improved, quieter, a lot less torque steer.

Previously had factory Continental EcoContact - the only good thing about them I think is they lasted over 40k miles.

Can anyone comment on the wear rate of the Weatherbotherers as compared to the Pirellis in year-round running?
