My Tors, just a basic 2ltr, can be very responsive but does need good use of the gearbox. Speed isn't of any real consequence anyway but I find that it's very easy to unwittingly go to 80+ when overtaking, not really slow! My first experience of a 240, also a 2ltr, was as a passenger, wafting along the A30 and glancing at the speedometer to notice that the needle was hovering around 90mph!

Good acceleration at junctions and roundabouts is much more important than top speed, and I find I can make a very swift getaway if necessary. Also some reserve from around 50 is very helpful on major roads, and again, especially by using 4th gear, the acceleration is more than adequate, and rarely so stodgy s to hold up most other vehicles.

I do like just occasionally to show what the old tank can do though. On a long, steepish hill I use quite often I go down to second gear, already leaving other cars behind, then up through the gears by which time the road behind is usually clear! You're never too old to have a bit of innocent (but always safe) fun!

A close look at a Volvo 240 Group A touring car. It seems so close to a road-going 240, with many recognisable parts which you know would bolt straight onto any other 200. The redblock with a turbo made for a highly competitive touring car.

Nice, I want it

Wasn't it a 2.1 litre engine though a B21ET?

All those go faster bits would fit lovely!

Hi,

Your B230E auto should do 0-60 in about 11 seconds.

And 240s aren't that heavy compared to modern cars.

Thanks
