If I had to fill up at Thatcham I would have to use 9 litres (return journey) to buy 40 litres. Makes a big dent in the savings.

Since they will be phasing out all fossil fuels c.2030, diesel, petrol and lpg, my next car will be electric.

Thanks for the advice It looks like I have several places near me (the ones that Dave mentioned) - it appears that they are still open. Two of them have reasonable prices. The quote I've got for the conversion is quite competitive from an accredited installer (£1000) and I think it would only take 1.5 years to break even on my mileage. It would be a bit of a gamble though so I'm going to have a think about it and check out my local suppliers before I commit.

Would there be any 'sunset costs' involved in removing the LPG conversion once LPG is not available anymore? Or would it be a case of just leaving the LPG tank empty and running from the petrol tank instead?

Frustratingly, one of my main aims with this is to reduce my car's CO2 emissions slightly. I'm thinking of buying an electric car to replace my other diesel car and then planning on keeping the Volvo - getting the LPG conversion was a way of salving my conscience. I agree with the push to non-fossil fuelled cars, but it's annoying that LPG is the first fossil fuel to be phased out when it's the cleanest one (I think?). If only we'd focussed on LPG rather than diesel vehicles about 15 years ago - hindsight is a wonderful thing!

If only we'd focused on LPG 40 years ago more like! That's when it goes back to and the govt was advised NOT to make diesel a "green" fuel for the simple reason it isn't "green". The health problems diesel causes were known about then as well.

They were also advised against the use of catalytic converters but they didn't listen to that either.

So I have lost 2 of my 3 nearest local suppliers and the third is due to lose it's supply soon.

Edit, I have just rang Shell in Shinfield Rd Reading and they are charging 89.9p per litre now! Not very long ago and petrol wasn't much more than that. They too have recently hiked about 20p per litre. About 18p more per litre than I am paying now.
There used to be a few LPG places in Bracknell as well but not sure if they are still around.
