Default Rear fog light not working any ideas?

Hi all,

Ok so I got my MOT coming up in a month and my rear fog lights are not working.
I have checked the bulbs and ok, the fuse is also ok.
Looked at the earth point for the rear fog lights and goes to a green plug on the boot floor which I can’t seem to do much with.
If I have the headlight on and switch the rear fog light switch on the switch illuminates the icon on dash but no lights.

Please bear with me as I’m quite new to this and the electronics, I got a Haynes manual so any tips on how to start diagnosisi is the prob please.

Stating which car you have may help folks diagnose the issue.

Did you have the ignition and headlamps on when checking?

Does your car have one rear fog light or two? Standard they have one, but it's really easy to do a modification to have two, many owners have done this.

This being the case, are you SURE you have checked the correct bulb? If you're not sure, use a multimeter or simple 12V test rig (you can use a battery charger if you're careful) and check ALL the bulbs in both clusters. Any you find where the glass has gone dark, change it, because even if it's working now the dark glass shows it's on its last legs.

Failing that, you'll need to take the multimeter and test for a 12V feed to the lamp cluster. If it's not there, you'll need to chase it back until you find the break.

Ah it has a build each side so I presume 2.
It’s the bulbs above the yellow indicators isn’t it?
Ok I will double check the bulbs agian and then use a voltmeter to check for voltage at the bulb holder.
I let you know how I get on will try it tomorrow as dark now.
Many thanks for the help!!

Usually only one rear foglight, the offside, is in operation/lights up. The nearside one is not connected.

Hopefully you have not been focusing on fixing the nearside light ?
