1.5 T2 Auto - 98 RON?
Has anyone determiend whether 98 RON is worth the extra cost in terms of fuel economy for the 1.5L T2
The manual just says "95 RON can be used for normal driving. 98 RON is recommended for optimum performance and minimum fuel consumption." but that seems to be a generic statement for all their petrol engines. |

I have a V40 T2 automatic and in the two years I have owned the car I have run it on Shell or Esso 95 RON apart from once when I used 98 RON but can't say there was any noticeable difference. The car has always averaged around 40 mpg but I have averaged high 40's on a longer cross country run.

Well my 65 plate V40 R design geartronic T3 is 3 years old in January next year. For the last year Ive only put in super unleaded. It goes much better and economy is slightly better. My car only comes out at weekends so is driven on longer trips not around town. I get between 400 and 500 miles from a tank.
Ive noticed that as engine has loosened up it is much better. Currentl done 11700 miles. So answer is yes. Super unleaded is worth it in my view. |

Unless the car is mapped to suit the higher octane fuel, little if any difference will be made.

the engine will adapt to the type of fuel you use that's why they stipulate using either , that is common with most cars..

Not sure about the newer engines but all of the turbo petrol volvo's I've owned respond much better to quality fuel.
I notice a difference between regular Tesco unleaded and regular Shell unleaded, and a bigger difference still with 99RON, although again Shell seems to be the best. |
