Default Warning for V60 Polestar owners

There was an attempted burglary at our home last night. Attempts to jemmy open a PVC window and a PVC kitchen door with a crowbar ; both with multi point locking, So they attacked the double glazed panel in the door. First attack woke up our dog and me. Attack on the second pane, I heard a tinkle of broken glass and the dog went ballistic; they legged it as soon as they heard the dog and me. They had broken right through the pane and were within seconds of being able to use the key, in the lock, to open the kitchen door. We always left the key in the lock in case there was a fire. The police reckon they were after the keys to my V60 Polestar.

It seems these cars are on the scumbag lowlife want list now !

Sorry to hear that, and glad that they didn't take your car.

Car thieves are after anything that's quick these days. A neighbour of ours had his BMW 135 stolen earlier this year, same MO as you nearly experienced: they broke in via a glazed panel in the door and took the BMW keys. Nothing else was stolen, despite the wife's handbag & purse, and other items like mobiles being nearby.

The car was later found a couple of days later abandoned but undamaged on the outskirts of Liverpool. Apparently CCTV footage showed that it had been used in a robbery in Liverpool as the getaway car: the police reckoned the criminals switched vehicles once they'd made sure they weren't being followed.

A police officer once said always leave your keys in sight down stairs whilst your asleep upstairs. If someone wants your car and they're willing to break in, imagine what they would do to find your keys using any means possible. Not worth the risk. They want it, they will get it.

I'd try to install some CCTV or extra lighting outside your home that can't be tampered with.

We're looking into getting CCTV. We like in a bungalow, so the options for "tamper proof" CCTV and security light installations are unfortunately limited. There is a security light in the area of the attack, mounted as high up as possible, but they merely turned the sensor round to face the wall ! I'll look into immobilising that sensor rotation. I get the impression they had been around to evaluate things before the night of the attack.

New hefty bolt and padlock fitted to the rear gate already ( secured with tamper proof fittings). There was no bolt fitted since the new gate was fitted some 3 weeks ago. Hinges were already through bolted on the gate, secured to the wall with m8 security head bolts.. Also, tamper sensors/130 dB alarm for the glass ordered.

There was no CCTV anywhere in the area, any sort of burglary is such a rare occurrence here.

An unfortunate reality today especially now the Volvo scene is getting so popular. The fact is nothing is safe anymore and as above the lengths they’re prepared to go to to get what they want. Our overstretched police force is making it easier for them too... Sad times

invest in a full cover steering wheel lock. a quality one like disclock car thieves hate them and will go for an easier target.

My V60 D5 twin engine was stolen in August (not Polestar). Window was forced open and keys taken. Thankfully Volvo On Call worked brilliantly, and my car was found about a mile away, undamaged. It was back on my drive within about 3 hours.

I've added window locks and security lights, am also considering CCTV as a deterrent.

re "Volvo on call"; my car has it. It can I'm sure be disabled by Volvo dealers. When my car has been in for a service it never updates, it always shows its location as being at the dealer ( 12 miles away) until the car shows up on our drive. Presumably savvy thieves could do the same.

I believe that this is how VOC is meant to work (unless I am misunderstanding your point). The location is only updated at the end of each journey. So your car will appear to be at the dealers until after it has reappeared on your drive. There are no location updates visible while the car is in motion.

What I found interesting was turning on the journey tracking feature while the car was with the dealer. I got to see all the trips they'd taken while trying to diagnose a fault, including some at very high speed on the motorway!

Thanks,

I didn't know it worked like that; how does it determine the end of each journey, when the engine stops ? Presumably Volvos with start/ stop technology must compensate for that, or else each set of lights on red/ traffic jam they encounter would be counted as the end of a journey.

Each journey tracked can only be used to calculate the average speed; so if it looked very high speed, the speeds must have been even higher at some point !
