Default Solenoid Disconnection

It would seem that after weeks of messing about i can be pretty certain that the Solenoid has to be the problem, or some sort of interaction with.

After two weeks and 300 miles of driving i reconnected the beast and within five miles from a cold start the problem re-occurs..............So I disconnected the unit, gave the accelerator a couple of dabs and the irregular running melted away.

So, call me picky but I have the need to know why? And what is actually happening?? It just seems so strange that it runs better with part of the kit disconnected.

Growl.

Well you know that the solenoid working correctly will adjust the valve timing according to the ECU via oil pressure to the VVT timing pulley.

You are lucky in one respect that the pulley has not jammed in advance or retard position as it is 98% the pulley fails. The other 2% is the solenoid that will malfunction.

Although you don`t notice any effect to performance or mpg, you should do, but you may eventually know the difference if it fails the MOT for emissions as the engine and ECU settings was designed for this solenoid unit in mind to be functioning.

Thanks for that 960kg - As it happens the pulley was replaced by the main dealer in October, although i noticed no change in performance or change to this retched irregular running that I continue to chase.........I gather the dealer recommended the pulley change due to the oil seal having failed causing slight soiling of the cam-belt with a drop of oil now and again - not that the mechanism had failed in the VVT.

So what puzzles me is how disconnecting the solenoid can improve the running of the vehicle?!?!?

Something does not add up!
