Default Rear Lens Seals - Urgent!

Hi all,

Out today trying to track a leak in the boot of the car - took off the rear lights to find that neither had rubber seals attached! Presumably this isn't right, and would at least partly explain where water is coming from!?

Does anyone have spare seals at all, or could recommend a fix in the short term given current circumstances?

Many thanks

Hi Roge

What model and what year, left or right, top or bottom (if V70)?

Steve

Apologies, should have said it's an S70.. That being said, I could probably make any light seal work!??

Thanks

If you have to make your own gaskets then ebay is good for various materials & sizes: ~
This is one link to a closed cell type https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Foam-Shee...u_H2dpfidBqtSw

You can also get similar in a cord form if that can be used?
Trust it helps
Bob.

Cutting a neoprene gasket from a sheet is a PITA fir the area of the rear light stack due to the shape; if you can't source the original "rubber" gaskets/seals the only viable option would be silicone sealant.

HOWEVER, if you choose to use it, apply a thin even layer on the metal face of the car body, allow it to cure and then and only then refit the light stack(s) - by allowing it to cure and then re-fixing the light stacks, the stacks will not glue to the body but simply will form a flexible and weatherproof non-bonded seal as you tension the nuts on the rear of the light stacks ie they won't let in water and you can get them off again without breaking the plastic!

The other viable alternative would be to use the waterproof 3mm foam draught proofing window insulation strip which you can get on a 5 or 10m reel from Toolstation, Screwfix, Wickes or Amazon.
