Default Kwik fit a/c recharge service - any recommendations?

I was shopping around for an evacuation/recharge for my car - Kwick Fit jumped out at 44.95GBP seems good but as the link says they turn you around within an hour:

http://www.kwik-fit.com/air-conditioning.asp

Shouldn't the system be under vacuum for at least an hour to recover the moisture in the receiver/drier?? In which case aren't Kwik Fit being too quick, ie not doing it properly?

Does anyone recommend a company in York (area) who can service my a/c correctly??

Thanks
Matt

Not York but I know of a place in Hull that does a/c. Did my last car and I was happy with the work (until missus blew the engine, but can't blame a/c for that )

I don't have the info to hand but will try and post this evening.

If they are good, I'd go to Hull, what was the cost/time etc?
Thanks
Matt

Found it....

Chris Cars
71, Edgar St, Hull, North Humberside HU3 2DG
Tel: 01482 606567

It's a back street place but gets good recommendations and repeat business.
Suggest you give them a call as, if I remember right, they had various prices depending on what needed doing. Maybe see what they say about the one hour turnaround as a test?

Map of where the place is here. If you decide to go and need directions drop me a PM. It's quite easy to find but it is off the main road.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Yes, the system should be connected to the machine for at least an hour to make sure the whole system is clean and moisture free..

So if quack fit, sorry kwik-Fit, are doing this in under an hour, then they are not doing the job properly.
In which case, do not use them..

That's what I thought, so why are they being so unprofessional about it? Might go in and ask if they can take longer.

Indeed, they are effectively and very publicly saying, We Don't Do The Job Properly! Come and use us!!

No Thanks!!

A bit off topic, I tried a tyer search for my 940 with 17" on - One Tyre and one speed rating. One at another rating.!!
Lost for choice there then!!

I personally wouldn't trust them to check the tyre pressures let alone allow them to "have a go" at the aircon.
If they screw your aircon you will be the one left with a bill for £1500 to replace the system. That's a figure I've frequently seen quoted for a new aircon system.
Better to seek out a specialist in your area and give them your business. When I had my FIAT aircon service done at the main dealer, they actually sub-contracted the work out to a local specialist.

Spoke to Kwik Fit a/c specialist, he said its a waste of time holding vacuum for longer that 30 mins and they wouldn't do it.

My main dealer also contracts out and told me they haven't had any complaints with the company they use, 100GBP plus vat!! I was pushy and asked for the name/number but they wouldn't give.

Might be off to Hull yet?

gREETS...

I did post some stuff about Kwik fit yesterday... Anyway, to recap...
Kwik-Fit say if it your aircon is not significantly improved after they've re-gassed, you don't pay. (£44.95)
My system had emptied itself somehow. Maybe because she'd been off the road for several months.
The ambient temp was 32c in the quikfit place. I took my car away just about 70 mins after they started the work and the cabin temp was 10c and falling.
It's still working beautifully after a couple of weeks. The quikfit I used was in Streatham, SW London.
Not so sure I want them to do my brakes though!
Look on the bright side. If it's not heaps better at least you got a free re-gas or found out you've got a leak...

Happy motoring
