i've fitted the screen but all my times been going on Penelope so haven't had chance to finish it

personally i wouldn't run it alongside a remap, with a remap the max air/overboost limit would of been either raised or removed so if you do set the controller wrong (or just go silly like i would) you could end up running too much boost & bending the rods

if you do decide to fit it then you'll be better off bypassing the BCS & running the boost controller straight between the small turbo pressure pipe & the actuator

what make/model controller you got?

hi pal trust me to get bad luck lol ,its only a etc model 901 with a varible controller boost soloinod with led read out ,i thought it was along shot with runing a rica as im runing 1.2bar and im not happy how the engines runing ,mind i thow a kkk turbo on and 3pipe plus another ecu still boost came in later but i think the t5 engine isnt up to mutch ,so i was thinking about useing this boost control joby ,mind if im runing 1.2bar at mo i reckon it may bend a rod or so as poeple say its the limits with a t5 lump

can't say i've heard of etc (or couldn't find them on tinternet)

rica has always been too smooth a power delivery wise for my liking, but with that lump in a Beetle it should still put a smile on your face (especially when you've been thru 3 different turbo's).

I'm not saying the controller can't be used, just saying you've got to be carefull because i don't think the rica ecu would limit the boost if it got to much (even BT's ecu can ignition cut). I'd be tempted to try it with a standard ecu & see how it feels, i assume the controller has variable gain so you'll be able to make the turbo kick in with some aggression?

right lol ive had a std ecu and god arnt they **** lol but didnt try any type of boost control unit ,if it would make it any better id make a mega squart ecu so everything can be alterd manualy ,that might be the dam engine responce pick up better ,an yearh had some fun ,but im not over happy considering the remaps turbos etc ,and for prices of high beam rods and parts it would be easyer just fitted another lumplol like i keep thinking

lol i've had to go back to stock & yeh feels like i'm driving with the handbrake on

con-rods will only allow you to run more boost, but if you not happy with how quick/aggressive the boost is they won't make any difference

have you got any pics of your boost controller, i'm curious what its like

i managed to knick a bigger picture but only a bit better

from the pic now tho you can see the control unit has only got 1 knob, which i'm guessing is the boost level. So you won't have control of how aggressive the boost cuts in, & could possibly boost too high at low rpm meaning bent mister con-rod (this is only a guess, you'll have to let me know more when it turns up)

i powered my boost controller up yest & think you need to be qualified by NASA to set it up lol

PS i'm not going to ask what the vests for

i've got an Apexi one, altho mine is the limited edition black one (cost me £300)

its an amazing piece of kit, you can
  • adjust the boost/gain level depending on RPM
  • adjust the boost/gain level depending on gear
  • has a built in overboost (press a seperate button for an extra burst)
  • monitor 6 different functions (4 displayable at the same time)
  • 60second replay
  • can view data in numerical, analogue or graph format

its not to bad to wire up, theres only 7 wires on it but some do need to go to specialist terminals off the ecu (which i guess isn't going to be hard for you as your ecu is in the cabin as well)

i'd be tempted to try an MBC first see if that makes the difference your after
