S60 D3 Whistling noise and loss of power
Hello all,
Newbie in the Volvo world here. Few weeks ago I bought a 11 plate, S60 D3, 94K miles on the clock, all things good, quite impressed with it being my first Volvo(owned and driven). 2 days ago I noticed the car does not pull as before around 1500rm - 2000rpm and yesterday I noticed a whistling sound when accelerating but mostly between gear changes and when decelerating, youtube video attached: https://youtu.be/XmMJg2z2iWk I can assume this is caused by a loose hose on the intake piping? any piece of advice is welcome, thank you Last edited by Alex9; Dec 15th, 2018 at 08:38. Thank you for your reply. I’ve checked the hose you advised but there is no ‘hissing’ noise from that side. While idling though, you can hear air escaping from the driver’s side but the intercooler hose seems to be fine, no visible holes, cracks, etc. I’m having it serviced next week and I’ll get the guys @ Volvo to have a look at it

So I’m at the dealership and a technician just told me that there are no burst hoses, but the DPF is at 24,6g of soot and recommended to do a manual regen and this might be the cause for the loass of power and even the whistling noise
Will update later |

He should be fixing the cause , then it will regenerate itself .manual regenerations are very severe and do not do the Particle filter any good .

Apparently there are no faults other than the DPF according to the diagnostics tool

He’ll have it serviced and then go out for a test drive.
So in your opinion the DPF does not have anything to do with the mentioned syptoms of the car ? Also forgot to mention that fuel consumption went up (43 mpg to 40.5mpg according to the OBC) since the issue started |

No I’ve had no messages, and since I’ve bought it I had a weekly drive ( 30 minutes, at least, from 30 mph to 70 mph) and I’ve just a had a 60 mile motorway drive , but the guy said that if the DPF goes over 10g of Soot it can’t regen itself - I am not a specialist so I will not comment
I’ll see what he comes back with once he drives it ... let’s hope he gets to the bottom of it without a forced regen Will update Thanks |
