'00 S40 1.8 Odd Rattle
My googlings have turned up nothing useful, and a full inspection showed no issues, so I thought I'd turn to the experts.
My '00 S40 1.8 is making an odd rattling noise on acceleration when cold. I should probably say "on torque", as it seems more related to that. Basically on initial acceleration, on declutching etc. I would describe the rattle as "hollow". More concerningly there is sometime a corresponding dip in the power output of the engine, recently enough to feel a stutter in the car's acceleration. Once the car is warm it goes away. I'd be very grateful for any insight. I'm a robotics engineer, so generally mechanically versed, but not deeply when it comes to car specifics. |

Hmm, really hoping it isn't that, given the apparent cost. I can make the rattle happen without changing gear, just by accelerating relatively hard without touching the clutch.
