960 x T6?
just thinking aloud here but could the S80 T6 go into my 960?
Could you in theory could you just lump on the exhaust manifold on and plumb in the oil feeds? your thoughts appreciated |

There is room on the exhaust side , in fact in 1991 i heard volvo had a prototype twin turbo 960 8 years before the S 80 came out , perhaps they developed the B6304T in the 960 first .
You would have to use the whole turbo engine not convert your original , there are a lot of differences .

Ohhhh, you're opening a can of worms here!!
Mainly because I was planning to do this a while back and had pretty much forgotten about it! Des (CTC Network) is also planning it. He's got a little further than me though, last I heard he has the engine... I saw a pic of it in the back of his 940! Do it do it do it.... Then do mine Steve

Hi,
A T6 in a 960/90 has been done already.. The one below uses a Holset HW35 single turbo rarther than the OEM twin tiny turbos. Main problem for us peeps on this side of the pond is the existance of the steering column and the exhaust system in the same general area of the engine bay!

5 cyl?
I know of at least one chap putting a 5-cyl onto a whitebox M90 in a 7 or 9 - I think his biggest problem has been that the dizzy is an interference fit with the bulkhead so he has had to go megasquirt.

It fits... Dunno if anyone knows the company, but a German Volvo tuner near Hannover called "Hausser" had 960 Turbos (B6304FT) for sale. They had something like 250-300 hp (only) due to the AW30-43LE box behind the engine. The engines couldn't withstand the power though... They tended to crack (thermal problems).
A T6 from a S80 will fit though - you'll have to do a LOT of work to it though! Find either an Automatic which can cope with the power AND is for RWD (S80 = FWD) or get a rare M90 from a 2.5 or 3.0l 960. Even then though a long life will be rather impossible... If you use the power frequently

Manuel?
Manual is much more fun.
I'd expect a whiteblock M90 to handle at least 500 bhp. After that you are onto the T5s eg from a Ford Cosworth or a US behemoth. |

Syncros usually go first, plus don't forget that it's a really heavy gearbox, originally designed for the Mustang. There are some that say Ford's very own MT-75 'box is stronger, which is about the same vintage as our M90, it also replaced the T5 in Cosworths and eventually pretty much every RWD Ford because they were so relliable. Don't forget though that the M90 was designed by Gertrag, and they make some mighty strong cog-swappers!! Steve
