Default V40 - what are the common faults?

Interested in buying a V40 and would like to hear from current owners re the key issues. I appreciate the vehicle only went into production in 2012, but perhaps some gremlins have already revealed themselves?

Depends on the variant.
I have 2013 V40 D2 with 28k on the clock now, bought in June 2016 with 19k on the clock, so far I have had a diesel injector replaced. Everything else is good, very pleased with the fuel consumption, very economical practical car. Interior specification is very good, no rattles or groans, very quiet to drive, stop start works well. Phone integration is good, easy to use. It also has city braking which I was sceptical about but it has acivated once. The hill start assist is very good and I miss it on my mx5. Rear parking sensors would be a benefit but not retro fitted yet.

I have not read anything about any particular issues with the V40.

The 5 cylinder engines and the 1.6 D2 in earlier models are well proven engines.
There were EGR issues with the new 4 cylinder D4 but I believe this has now been resolved.

I have done 16,000 miles in my 2016 V40 with the new T2 petrol engine and am very happy with the car. I agree with the above comment regarding parking sensors, rear visibility is not that great and parking sensors are a must.

I had a 2012 V40 D3 and in 2015 the alternator failed which was covered by warranty but i had to pay for the new battery which the alternator had killed cost £300 iirc which i didnt think was fair!

Other than that nothing else went wrong i only did 50k in it though. I think the D3 5cyliner i had in mine was a great engine.

I had a 2016 D2 . lovely car.
Clutch slave cylinder failed at 6months, first service, fan fail, egr problems 6 trips to dealer, never fully resolved, loss of coolant ended up car being recovered to dealer, complained to Volvo uk nothing ever resolved ,lost total faith in the dealer who supplied the car.

Car now sold .......shame
