Now all we have to do is stop the Pratt’s who think it is clever to straddle 2 lanes to stop traffic passing them and ‘jumping the queue’ when coming up to lane restrictions and we are sorted

what IS wrong with sitting in the middle lane at 60, doing makeup, doing texts, speeding up to overtake then braking soon after ?
Can someone tell me what the sticks are for either side of the steering wheel ?

since having adaptive cruise/er distance warning thing I always knew we all drove to close but its hard to believe just how few actually keep at least 2 seconds from the car in front.

If everyone kept to 3 seconds apart on the motorway I feel we would never have huge delays, but its vital for us all to get as close as possible to the car in front so they know our need to get to the destination is greater than theirs!


I was honestly surprised how often I wasn't 2 seconds behind as I always thought I was pretty good at doing that, also surprised at how many people will jump over take me and pull in when cruise is set to 3 seconds from car in front which is a bid annoying as you endlessly fall slow back even though your doing the same speed (as such I rarely use 3 seconds now)

Rubber necking I don't agree with but the natural reaction when seeing blue lights ahead is to slow down until you are certain it's not going to impact you.

On one journey down the M6 came up to the rear of a queue, stayed in lane 1 and bumbled along to find the queue was caused by a breakdown. Traffic womble stood in lane one frantically waving traffic past, wondering why the traffic was not speeding up while he stood in the way. Roadworks and breakdowns I treat with respect, I've been the other side of those cones and it ain't a comfortable place to be, don't care how frantically a womble waves at me.

So much of this rubber necking is lazy journalism, folk slow down because they see blue lights up ahead and until they are sure of the situation proceed with caution, as they should.

That’ll only be possible when you’ve stopped Audi drivers shooting past the merging traffic and cutting in sharply at the last minute, causing the car whose zone of safety they’ve cut into to brake sharply.

I always try to do the right thing and move over to the inside lane at the first opportunity - and I usually regret it! Why? Because within half a mile I find myself rapidly closing on a slow moving vehicle and the second lane behind me is chockablock. No way of getting out and I am stuck up the *rse of a lorry for much longer than I want, at a slower speed than I want.
I don’t know the answer to this problem - good guy getting frustrated or bad guy sticking to middle lane and driving effortlessly.
Don’t tell me I should look well ahead and drive accordingly - it might work in theory, it’s crap in practice

The opposite view is that if a lane is open, it should be used, so to reduce the overall length of the queue and therefore the delay.

Possibly the two schools of thought are not mutually exclusive......

I often put my foot down on slip road to pull in front of slow moving vehicle on carriage way, my logic is, putting foot down to get ahead on slip road is safer than trying to put foot down to overtake and then pull into lane 2 with existing traffic already over taking said slower vehicle.

Also, we have to remember we are the traffic, not everyone else!

Most annoying is when you have cruise on over take someone, they then overtake you pull in front and slow you down... aagghhhh
