Just worth a go, very quick.

Plot twist: it's possessed! You need a priest not a mechanic...

Default More Grrrr.

One local Bosch service centre frankly admitted they just did routine servicing. They recommended the local genius Medway Security Service who has ALL the diagnostic stuff. He ran a mile at the mention of a pre OBDII problem. Not even interested in looking.

Default Yes but

They are the chaps who very honestly admitted that all they did was routine servicing! Far better than taking the car in and getting nowhere and giving me a big bill.

Default Well.............

.................at least they were honest!

I'm fairly sure this has probably been asked before but have you had a compression test done since the HG was done?

The reason i ask is a friend of mine who owns a Rover 820 Vitesse Sport turbo (the 200bhp jobby) had a similar problem recently. In fairness it seemed to be generally down on power, not quite as smooth as it should be and a few other minor things like noisy valve train etc.
Being the sort of bloke he is, he stripped and rebuilt the head and found during the process the exhaust valves weren't in the best of shape. In fact they were almost oval, mainly because they had got extremely hot at some point.

Given the fact you've tried all the other obvious stuff i'm beginning to wonder if there was something like this that was missed by the garage that did the HG originally and just couldn't work it out.

I know that's a bit of a drastic measure to take, removing the head again and checking but this has been rumbling on for many moons now. Perhaps someone else could give it some thought and see what they think, it could perhaps be worth a try.
