My old C70 2.0 cost £180ish, unlimited miles and business use. I'm old with full NCD

I dont know.
There are a lot of foreigners in UK, enough that there may be some insurers who give them a better deal. Insurance is competetive, up to a point.
I wonder if its worth driving your overseas-registered car here till you have to import it (or go home for a week), using your existing insurer ?
Youre going to have to shop around. Ask other incomers.

You wouldnt be alone in being so cheesed off by some insurance prices that you buy a fiat panda and a bicycle.

Default car insurance

If you have difficulty over NCB may I suggest Be Wiser brokers .I had not had my own insurance for nine years ,having been a named driver on my partners insurance .It was only Be Wiser that would give me credit for that and gave me 7 years ncb .ALL the others wanted to really sting me as if I was new despite having been driving safely for 45 years .
The premium ended up at £240 for a t5 in rural Scotland ,which I thought was about fair .Also ,they have not tried to bump up the premium on renewal or even creep it up which is refreshing .
They seem to take an individual view and not be be bound by "computer says no".

Default ncb

Try Be Wiser insurance .They are the only ones that would give me credit for nine years as a named driver ,age 65 ,rural Scotland ,t5,45 years safe driving .All the others wanted to start me from fresh, and I think you will have the same problem from abroad .Premium was £240
,all the others more than double .Also included ,RAC roadside
Oops ,seem to have repeated !

Thx for all your input Gents!
In the end I managed to get a reasonable insurance quote from "Aviva" on the Volvo C70 T5 for me and a MG ZT-T +190 for my wife. At least they were willing to accept our NCB from abroad, and their cover and terms seemed quite reasonable.

Hi,
If you haven't actually taken up the insurance yet please feel free to give us a try. If you have then no problem at all. Try us next year possibly.
Regards,
Dan.

If it's a second + car and you expect to do less than 5,000 miles a year you can insure it as a classic with Peter Best (very good company) at nearly a half of what you will pay for "normal" insurance.

If that doesn't work then the normal search in the insurance search engines will be the way to go IMHO.
I don't think the insurers consider a car to be Classic until it is 20 years old. I have just acquired a 1997 940 and would not be considered a Classic for that reason.

Well I haven't paid yet.
Dan, do you guys accept NCB from abroad? That seems to be a bit of an issue with many insurance companies...

Let's not get into the discussion of what's a "classic" as such, but I can assure you that the policy I'm on with PB is their "classic car" policy - I believe they'll consider anything over 10 years old for that type of policy, are you saying they refused to insure your 940 on a classic policy? If you haven't asked them, I suggest you do so, you might have a pleasant surprise!
