Default Best 17" tyres?

So it's time a treat my C70 T5 to four new 225/45-17 tyres.
I've always been very fond of Continental tyres - not cheap, but damn they are good! So I'm leaning towards a set of ContiSportContact.
But I'm keen to hear your thoughts first. In your experience, what's the best tyre for my C70? It should perhaps be said that I do like to use the performance of my car. But it's of course still at daily for me, so I'm not after an all-out track tyre or similar.
All input is most welcome...

greetings,

you are my first post - so apologies if I do something wrong!

I was looking for a solution to my problem - unable to get a pedal on my 245 volvo, but stumbled across your question....

I am an Audi nut first and foremost with a varied and numerous collection.

About 2 years ago I bought a cabriolet - from a copper, sight unseen. It was the worst described car ive ever bought and i was distraught..... I took it to my local tyre man and told him put the cheapest set of tyres he had - so i could mot it and sell it.

Like you i adore conti's but was not going to pay to put on a seller.... He put HAIDA 215 45 17 on..... the drive home was fantastic and I kept the car!

Ive used on others cars in my collection and I rate them highly. The wear rate has been minimal also.

If you read reviews they are rated poorly but I can only speak for myself and they are brilliant - plus at about £`140 a set delivered its not going to break the bank.

regards

I fitted a pair of Michelin Primacy 3's because the previous Michelin Primacy HPs gripped like crazy right down to the wear markers. Don't know what total mileage they had done because they came with the car but they were really good in the wet even when well worn. I don't normally go for premium tyres but I was impressed with the Michelins.

If you're after touring tyres rather than an out and out sports tyre I've had surprisingly good experience on my P2 V70 T5 and my Mk2 C70 D5 with Pirelli P7 Cinturato Blue. Grip in the wet and dry are both as you'd expect from a premium tyre but the wear rate on them is phenomenal. I still have 7mm tread left on the front after 10,000 miles in the D5, the previous Michelin Primacy 3 were done in completely after 15K.

A colleague uses them on his D5 S80 and has had similar outstanding performance.

I also used the previous P7 Cinturato Eco Impact with similar results. After the dreadful P6000 I was wary of Pirelli but I cannot recommend these highly enough as a touring tyre. Reviews on www.tyrereviews.co.uk seem to back up my experience too.

I've just put Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 on the front of my C70 and not seen the STC light come on yet which came on quite often running Michelin Primacy 3 not sure what the wear is yet as I haven't done many miles but don't think it can be worse than the Primacy 3s

Two different kinds of tyre, the Assy will provide more grip, and any Goodyear will be more predictable than a Mich. when on its limit.

Be interesting to see which covers more miles as Mich. pride themselves on producing tires that cover the most miles hence their harder compound compared to others..

HaHaHaHa... I should have known...
Haida, Michelin, Pirelli, Hankook, Uniroyal, Goodyear.
As many suggestions as there are answers.
Everyone has his own preference - it's almost as bad as asking a group of car enthusiasts which engine oil is the best. It's like bloody religion!

Seriously though - thanks for all of your input! It is truly appreciated.
For starters, what am I after?? Well, I've always put way more focus on performance than I have on comfort and wear rate. But I am of course getting older and I'm probably unlikely to ever track my C70. So seeing as it is a daily, I will allow those more trivial factors to have a little influence on my choice.

On the many BMW's I used to own, I was always very pleased with various ContiSportContact. But I gather that no one here has tried them on their Volvos...?
I tried the old Goodyear F1's at one stage, and wasn't at all impressed! I will admit though that I have heard that the newer Assy's are meant to be heaps better.
Michelins and Pirellis could of course also both be options though I confess that I have minimal experience with both.
Hmmmm... what to do???
