Default Rear subframe removal

The subframe on my 2003 xc90 is badly corroded and now failed the MOT. I've picked up a replacement that seems in reasonable condition, so just plucking up the courage to tackle the job - home and on driveway as my garage hasn't got enough head clearance

My current plan is to drop the entire subframe and running gear, transplant components and reinstall.

Does anyone know where i can find removal / reinstall procedures?
A bit of web searching hasn't thrown up much.

I thought VIDA might have something, but it doesn't seem to list it - mind you not sure if its my installation or not but it doesn't seem to have a huge amount in the repair section - almost as if sections are missing.

The only procedure i have at the moment is from within the XC60 / XC90 combined Haynes manual. Its a 9 step procedure that looks a bit to simple to me!!!

Many thanks
Nick

Sorry to bump this back up to the top of the messages again. Getting a little worried - its very rare for messages to go unanswered on this forum but it looks like I may have found that topic!! :-(

Has no one dropped a complete rear subframe before?

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often, when I checked my 4 year old xc's spare wheel, the sub frame was covered in surface rust, I treat it every year with a rust proofer

My 2003 XC90 had a MOT advisory for subframe corrosion on the last 3 or 4 tests, but as said above it's a big lump of iron and no part of it was about to hole or be significantly weakened.

Is it worth wax oiling, or as I’ve used in the past on my 73 bus, using dinintrol under seal?

I'm afraid its definitely gone! I know the person that does my MOT quite well. We've been keeping an eye on it for the the last couple of MOT's but this time its had it. The worst of the corrosion seems to be focused around the front mountings and the bent legs just behind them. Hammer went through!

I've not had the opportunity to look at other vehicles of a similar age, so cant say with any authority, but personally as other have said i think some regular wax oil / rust prevention may be a very good idea in this area if people want to keep their vehicles. To me it looks like it could be a prone risk area.

I've only had the vehicle since 2017 so dont know its history. I know its a local car, but dont know about boat trailer recovery. Dont normally have a problem here in Cornwall - my v70 is solid as a rock.

May not be tomorrow, but if I can i will get a couple of photos..

For me at least however, it needs to come out....

Changed the rear subframe of a xc90 8 years ago.
It was not corroded but most of the bushings were worn...
Bought a complete subframe with only 6000km (insurance issy car) on German eBay for €500, changed all except the rear brakes, they where fitted to my V70
