OK, so lets compare the figures:

1965 - Amazon, call it £1100, beer = 7.8p: number of pints needed = 14, 103

2008 - S60 (new, basic spec), call it £21,000: beer (average) = £2.70, number of pints needed = 7,777

So a new Volvo today is twice as cheap as it was 43 years ago, in beer terms.

In 1965 you could buy 23,530 litres of petrol for the cost price of your 122S
In 2008, you can buy 20,000 litres of petrol for the cost of an S60 (new).

So we can conclude that:
a) it is better to fill up your Amazon with beer
b) beer down south tastes like unleaded
c) ("don't drink & drive")
d) the Amazon is a brilliant car
e) in 2025 you will be able to buy a condition 2 Amazon for the cost of 2 litres of fuel (although by then President Livingstone will have banned both!!!)

Great, if we all fill up our Amazons on home brew then the government will collapse due to lack of revenue!

Well done Tom. Must have taken ages to work that lot out!
