Has anyone replaced their windscreen wiper blades using parts from somewhere other than the Volvo dealer? £35 seems a little steep for replacements.

Regards

After being quoted silly money by my local dealer for replacement wiper blades, I thought I would have a go at just changing the rubbers.

You need to remove the wiper blades from the car and remove BOTH end caps. To do this you need to slide a thin bladed screwdriver underneath the end cap on the side that is farthest from the windscreen.

Then, using another small screwdriver prise the two lugs on the other side of the end cap off sideways.

Once the caps are off there is a metal tab that is holding the rubber in place. Prise this up and slide the rubber out.

Put in a fresh blade and replacement is the reversal of removal.

Cost of two blades £37.99

Cost of two rubbers £2 plus £1.50 p+p online.

Where did you get your rubbers from Metblackrat? I looked at a few but they wouldn't fit - to thick on the part that slides into the 'blade'.

Ended up buying from the Ovlov dealer - but they were cheaper than Halfords.

I found that my local car accessory shop had a roll of the rubbers that he cut to length. I think it is 6mm refills you need.
