http://www.ukmot.com/manual/1.4/Flashing-Type#MOT Check what's written there - the important bit is "Reason for Rejection 1. A selector switch missing, insecure, faulty, or not able to be operated from the.............." The MoT is all down to interpretation for a lot of things but i would think that's fairly unabiguous. If the red cap is missing, it's also faulty and doesn't provide the red tell tale. Note that on the Volvo the red tell-tale isn't necessarily a problem as both indicator tell-tales flash with the hazards but the missing part of the switch should be.

Nonsense on stilts.
The selctor switch is not missing, insecure, faulty, or not able to be operated from the.............." There is simply a piece missing that would provide a nice colour to the tell tale light and make it nicer to operate the switch. Not faulty. Faulty would mean not operating correctly. Simple English. It is still ABLE TO BE OPERATED. PASS. ***** Volvo seem to have [had] a blind eye re this. Is it similar to the cover that often broke on the 740? . Contined nonsense on stilts. The rule is good. This rule says what is required. It does not require anything else. It does not require that cover. Absence of that cover is not "faulty". Faulty??? The switch works in every respect so far as we have been informed.

When you've renewed as many as i have due to MoT failures, then try and argue.

Back then Ford would only sell the complete indicator stalk! I guess Volvo would be the same if you could find the part but i daresay a pattern parts manufacturer has made some caps.

David. Five years of tests, and the wording of the rule, all say PASS. Anyways there's no argument. You and I are disagreed.
Eric. You want a replacement cap. So would I. Good luck. . |

As i said in my original post, the MoT rules are open to interpretation. Please read ALL of my posts carefully BEFORE making stupid or otherwise inflammatory remarks about them! Thank you!
If you've had 5 consecutive passes with a missing cap it's probably because you've got a 240 and it still has the old style rocker switch for the hazards. If Volvo changed it to the later one and it's missing, you have a very friendly MoT tester.

Me, I wouldn't care a toss about pass or fail. If it were my car all I would want is the proper 'cap' on the hazard button. Final word! Bob
