25a dumpy fuse
Hi,
Has anyone found a source of the 25a short fuse that the amazon uses other than Brookhouse? They have them, price is ok (£3..a lot for a fuse but cheap in the scheme of things) only thing is the postage cost. I keep forgetting to add a couple to an order, and I need some for my Merc. Otherwise, if anyone has an old fuse with just the ceramic left maybe they could send it to me? Happy to pay a few bob. I could then make one up out of a new fuse and the old ceramic. Thanks. Dave

Just what is the purpose of having the short dumpy fuse? I fitted a new fuse box on my PV with standard fuses. From the outside you can't tell the difference.

In this instance, it's to help my other car, which has a fuse box i cannot replace, but which uses the same short fuse as the Volvo. I also cannot jury rig up a modern fuse to replace it due to the nature of the 'box.

Arcturus;
Typically, when something like intentionally different sizes is designed-in, it is for the purpose of poka-yoke or mistake-proofing, so that in this case, fuses of differing current values could not be inadvertently interchanged...it certainly does that, but in our case, it also brings with it a minor burden of designing in a (sometimes) difficult to locate ABF size (7x17mm) 25A Fuse...one that a vintage Volvo owner should get (when its not needed) and keep on-board as a spare for when it is needed. There are repair options though. I guess the simplest is to harvest the element out of the more common ABC size (6x25mm) 25A fuse, and install it into the ABF ceramic holder. like so: See further notes on this: http://www.sw-em.com/Fuses,%20Alloca...es_and_Options All fuses conical ends as well as their making clips should be cleaned to shiny metal and installed with a dab of ACZP...but every body here already knew that... Just to show the world that not every vintage Volvo enthusiast is frugal beyond belief or reason, I would be happy to send you, for free, including postage, a pair of new dumpy 25A fuses...
Where to?
