Went for MoT re-test this afternoon with two new shiny black rear springs - and no advisories

For one reason or another been too busy to drive the C70 for a few days, but had time to roll her out the garage for a quick dust off and a spray of ceramic detailer. Then back and and on charge she went.

Took it for a spin to get my haircut and also finally replaced the missing dash bulbs and refitted the dash cap.

The list is getting smaller but it's still a big list 😂

Removed the rear arch liners today - just to see what is going on behind. Pleasantly surprised that after 20 years it is still as it left the factory.

Default Nearside Control Arm

Replaced the nearside control arm this weekend. Took me about an hour. Driving today, it is clear that the front wheel bearings are going to need replacing as they are going whump whump whump.

This car seems to eat control arms a lot. In the 23 years we have had it, it has needed them replacing about 4-5 times each side whereas the wheel bearings have only been done once. I do wonder if on the occasions I got a local garage to do the control arms if they put lower spec items on the car.

I also this week ordered two new front wings from the main stealer. They had to order them from something called classic car part of Volvo. I will keep these in storage until I have enough money to send the car to the local bodyshop.

I recently also bought myself a small stick welder as in other news my bed broke and I had to weld it back together again. I am sure once I get some practice in this will come in very handy. I have seen my brother- in -law in action many times and it is amazing what a welding tool can held with including rounded nuts.

Deep cleaned the interior and gave it a polish ready for the Club stand at Glemham next weekend.

Last time we went out in it the wind deflector - that sits over the back seats - started to rattle in its mountings, never done that before. Giving it a little nudge repositioned it and stopped it rattling - not before 'er indoors had got thoroughly fed up.

So, today the deflector comes out for the above cleaning and I noticed that the pegs either side that locate in the side trim panels are adjustable - to ensure the deflector fits snuggly between the side panels and not have any wiggle as mine had. Only had the car eight years and never noticed that.

Clean the deflector and apply a little Gummi Pfledge to the rubber 'o'ring on the end of the peg, then noticed that the pegs were slightly bent. Someone at sometime has obviously leant on the deflector and bent the pegs.

Removed the pegs from the housings and carefully straightened them in the vice and got them nearly true with a straightedge. One side was done first tweek, the other took over an hour repeatedly tweeking until it 'was about right'.

Hopefully, now the pegs are straightened and properly adjusted the rattle will be no more.

Replaced the rear springs on the V70. Not too bad a job to do and it will get 'corroded rear springs' off the MoT advisory list. I can't really complain; the originals lasted 25 years.
