Hello all,

I come across this car on Autotrader (linked below). I haven't seen it in person. I have an S80 now, but mine is a euro 4 with 163bhp (2.4D). This one shown is a euro 5 with 163bhp, so its cheaper to tax (£135 per year cheaper) and slightly better on fuel. However, its 4 years newer, but has 20k more on the clock.

I know the euro 5 engines don't have swirl flaps, which is a bonus. This appears to be a detuned euro 5 with a single turbo I assume (?), as I'm sure there were options with 205 or 215bhp with twin turbo's.

It looks like a clean car, but would you take the punt on something like that? Its not really any different to what I have now, but its cheaper to tax, a bit better on fuel and a bit less long in the tooth.

I've had a look through the MOT history, which looks pretty good. There was an advisory in 2021 for light missing of oil on the nearside rear shock. That hasn't been advised since, but don't some of these cars have Nivomat shocks in the rear, which is very expensive to replace?

It's a 2.0 5 cylinder which is why it's 163bhp. Will be better on fuel than the 2.4d. Torque is almost the same - 400Nm for the 2.0 and 420Nm for the 2.4d.

Can't see a suspension setting button on dash so should mean it's not got 4C so shock change not expensive.

I've had a D3 MY2011 manual V70 from new. Love the engine. It's a short stroke version of the 5 cylinder D5 with a single turbo. Smooth and lots of torque. Can't comment on how well suited it is to a Geartronic transmission but I imagine it would be fine.

I think my car has 420nm of torque. So this D3 won't have the same power?

Is 20nm of torque much, as in would it be really noticeable?

Sadly, I’ve just checked the advert again… its now sold. That didn’t hang around long!
