It does make a difference, the 8-bolt cranks are the less common ones. Those only came in cars in '74-'75 on this side of the pond.... Most B20 had a 6-bolt crank.

Correct me if I'm wrong but having the late 8 bolt flywheel means you'll have 24mm connecting pins so you could use B21 pistons if you fancy boring the engine to 2.130l as the B21. But will be harder to find a flywheel.

gonna make a steel flywheel got a bit of 16mm plate cut just gonna drill the 8 holes and bore the centre one and skim it all up and mount the ring gear on the outside will be making it take a ford sierra clutch nearly ready to start bolting it all together

flywheel B20
I think the flywheel from the B230 models (incl. the turbo's from 700/900 series) would have been a straight fit to this 8-bolted crank or ??? But if you are going the route of the sierra gearset I think you had to make the flywheel anyway.
Goodluck. Let us know how it looks/fits.... |

What weight did you go for Tom? Did you consider making a lighter aluminium one like what Vintage Performance sell in the US? http://www.v-performance.com/products/driveline.html
