Default Upgrading Performance to High Performance speakers

Hi there,

it's been probably asked before but I cannot find it at all.

I am considering upgrading my 04 V50 audio - currently I have basic Performance setup with added tweeters to all 4 doors. I would like to swap the midrange speakers to High Performance speakers(40W).

Is the basic amp able to handle those upgraded speakers? Can I just drill the basic ones out and rewired the new ones?

Thanks!

Cool

Hi there,

I just swapped the speakers on my 07 C30 last weekend to higher performance Alpine units and the amp can run these without any issues at all.

You will find that the speakers in the doors are riveted in and will need to be drilled out and you will also need to remove the connector plug from the speaker wire in order to wire them up to your new ones.

The speakers need to be mounted on rings in order to fit to the doors and there are plenty for sale on eBay that will do the job.

Sounds great! So did you also install more powerful speakers? Performance are 20W, High Performance are 40W so my only worry is that the amp is gonna heat up powering more powerful speakers?

That’s just a rating of how much power the speaker can take - not how much it will. So you can put 40W speakers on a 20W amp no problem. You wouldn’t want a 40W amp with 20W speakers.

The parameter that can upset the amp is the impedance of the speaker.
